DATA SHEET DESCRIPTION AND USE Use Intumescent Timber paint for bare or previously painted timber and timber based board, for surfaces where the surface spread of flame, or fire propagation and penetration need to be controlled. INTUMESCENT FIRE PROTECTION When exposed to a fire Intumescent Timber Paint expands to create a fire resilient barrier, insulating and protecting the timber surfaces from heat and the oxygen required for fire. SAFE MINIMUM THICKNESS OF WOOD FOR 30 Minute Standard (does not apply to Class 1 and Class O) Softwoods need to be at least 16mm thick and hardwoods 12mm thick, in order to withstand charring (without collapse) of 10mm (softwoods) or 6mm (hardwoods). Hardwoods, like Oak, burn slower than Softwoods, like Pine. These charring allowances leave 6mm of wood in reserve, to provide more time for escape, after the paint systems have expired. If the wood is less than these thicknesses it can be supplemented with additional panelling - we will be pleased to Quote for precision panels made to measure for your project. TO SPECIFY Prepare the surfaces and apply Intumescent Timber Paint to Class 1 and Class 0, or 30 or 60 Minutes. Then, if not to be covered over, apply one or two coats of Flame Paint (in matt, gloss, eggshell, vinyl silk or metallic finish) according to Manufacturer's instructions. FIRE TESTING Tested to BS476 Part 7; Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame. BS476 Part 6; Fire propagation. Designated Class 0 in accordance with U.K. Building Regulations. FIRE CERTIFICATION We will issue a Certificate of Supply upon request for each project for Insurance, Fire and Building Control Authority and Client Records.
